MINIMISING THE EVILS. MODIFYING THE AWARDS. SYDNEY, August 5. The State Premier, Air W. A. Hohnan, states that Parliament will probably authorise the Government to suspenrl by proolamation Wages' Boards' awards, and also relieve the parties: to industrial agreements from some of the obligations entailed upon them. The suspensions will not nullify the general principles of arbitration, but permit a modified application to suit iblte circumstances of the times. A meeting of the Boilermakers' Society toslay unanimously decidVd to suspend ,th e overtime clauses of the various awards governing the industry. They will do everything in their power to assist the naval and military authorities in the present crisis. The. Premier of Victoria states that, under no circirmslam-es will the Wages Boards' T.i.tes be reduced. He snggests that if the necessity, should arise an arrangement might be made to reduce the number of working days.
