CANADA READY TO BUY DREADNOUGHTS
AND PRESENT THEM TO BRITAIN. J LOYAL TO THE LAST DROP OF HER BLOOD. t ALL POLITICAL DIFFERENCES SUNK. OTTAWA, August 5. Tbe Cabinet is contemplating tbe purchase of three Dreadnoughts now completing in England for foreign countries and presenting them to Britain. Colonel Sam. Hughes (Minister for Defence) announces that Canada is now :n a Btate of complete defence. The batteries are manned, the rivers are mined, the cruiser Rainbow is ready for action, and a crew is being secured for the cruiser Niobe. Parliament has been summoned for an extraorcnaiy session to vote war supplies. It is practically certain that Canada will purchase the three Dreadnoughts. A wave of patriotic enthusiasm, unapproached at any time in.the country's history, is sweeping over Canada. Bonfires were lighted in the Prairie towns when the announcement of the .declaration of war was made. A thousand volunteers are offering their services daily. Patriotic associations are meeting and passing resolutions promising the Government everyrsupport in any action they may take to assist the Mother Country. Crowds of French-Canadians are parading in Quebec and Montreal with i Union Jacks and tricolours, cheering alternately the King and President Poincarc. The Canadian Club's annual All-Canada Convention, Bitting at Vancouver, has sent a message to the King assuring him of Canada's loyalty to the last drop of her blood. The steamer Victoria has sailed for Great Britain laden with reservists. Sir Wilfred Laurier (Leader of the Opposition) has agreed to the abolition of all party politics in Canada. He will assist the Prime Minister (Sir R. L. Borden) to help rhe Mother Country to the extent of every penny in Canada's Treasury.
