BRITAIN'S JNCOME TAX.
OVERSEAS CLAUSE STANDS. : REINVESTED PROFITS. (Received 1.6 p.m.) LOXDOX. July 13. The House of Commons to-day dealt j with clau.-e 5 of the Finance Bill, which I taxes incomes earned overseas, whether I the money be remitted to Great Rritain or not, to which strong objection was taken by the overseas Dominions. The representations made by Sir Geo. i Reid and Mr T. Mackenzie in an interview with Mr Lloyd George, in the presence of Mr L. Y. Harcourt and the Treasury officials, elicited a reply from Mr Harcourt which encouraged the hope that the double taxing of incomes would not be insisted upon : but. on th. question going to the vote the clause was allowed to remain in the bill. An amendment moved by Mr Worthington Evans, to exempt from taxation in Great Britain income derived from colonial investments reinvested in the colonies, was defeated by 26S votes to 107.
