MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Mannkau County Council wos held to-day. There were presnt: The Chairman (Mr H. H. MoKenziel, Captain Col-beck, Messrs A. D. : Bell, Hattaway. Bryant, and 'Brownhill. I PANMURE BRIDGE. . A resolution was carried -for the iwirpose of providing the Council's share of the cost of constructing a traffic bridge over the *Pam.iki River at Panmure authorising the raising of a loan of £10,fi00. at the rate of 4! per cent, for a period of ::ot j years. j A Departmental letter notified that the State Advances Board had agreed to entertain the loan. Attention was drawn to section -JO of the [.oenl Bodies Act. lflltt, enacting that every special rate should be made over an area contained within continuous boundarips. COUNTY STATISTICS. The clerk reported having supplied certain statistical information asked for by the Public Works Department. Tills showed that the a-roa of tbe county was 184 square miles: ratable value, £2*174,136; amount of rates raised per annum. C 1.770; population. -5.C00: number of ratable properties, 2,180; and number of ratepayers. 1,800. STANDARD SURVEY. The Council agreed to contribute to the cost of obtaining standard surveys Tor the county. This action was taken In response to a letter from the Department of Lands and Surveys giving particulars or the proposed extension of standard surveys. ROADMAKING PLANT. A favourable report was received from the Otahuhu Borough Council concerning the County Council's new roadmaking plant. The chairman said it was most satisfactory to llnd that the plant was giving satisfaction: also that it was more than paying for itself. OVERHEAD BBIDGE. OTAUCUU. With reference to tbe proposed overhead bridge near the Otahuhu railway station. Ihe officer In charge of the Labour Department wrote stating that the work " was about to be commenced, and asking that Uie promised contribution of £125 be forwarded by ihe Council. This was agreed to. COLLECTION OF RATES. The chairman drew attention to the practice of tbe Raglan County Council in demanding that rates for the current year should be pa|l within four mouths of notification. It was decided that the clerk should notify that Maimkau rates shuuid be paid not later than January 31. PERRY 'LANDINGS. Messrs Bell and Brownhill referred to the desire of passeugers from down-harbour ports to proies-t against the moving of the place of landing In Auckland. It was decided to make representations to the Harbour Board through tbe chairman of the Council.
