COMMISSION OF ENQUIRY". SITTING ADJOURNED FOR A WBEK. An inquiry into the financial trar--actioilt? between the Wailo.nia.ta. County Council and the Tttkapuna Borough Council rosultino- ifrom ttio constitution of the latter district as a borough, was opened by the commissioner appointed for uhe purpose (Mr. F. V. Fraser, S.M.), at the Courthouse this afternoon. Mr. Hagnall appeared for the Waiteraata County Council, ami Mr. M. G. McGregor for the Takapuna Borough Council. The Governor's <-onuni.ssion. as read by Mr. Frailer, authorised the latter to make a full investigation, .with a. view to the adjustment uf properties, liabilities', contracts and engagements, and to report within sixty days. Mr. Uagnall suggested that the parties should agree as to the appointment of an accountant, and that the inquiry should be adjourned tin tho meantime. Mr. sMcGregor did not raise objection, but asked if a lead could be given as to the nature of the investigations. Tbe Commissioner said that as soon as the accountant was decided upon bite commission luidit agree as to'the scope of the investigation -which be should innke. A su\'estion made by the Takapuna Council was that investigation* should extend tinck over a period of six years. They would have to decide whether the accountant should carry his inquiries back so far. An adjournment was accordingly matlo to Tuesday next at 2.1-> p.m.
