BIOGRAPH OPERATORS.

aTIRST AWARD ARRANGED. IN CONCILIATION COUNCIL. ; The biograph operators of Auckland have arrived at a complete agreement with t heir employers as tn the terms of the first award in "thisclass of industry in New Zealand. Negotiations were conducted in the Conciliation Council, under the presidency of Mr. T. Harle Giles, with Messrs. H. J. Hayward. F. Duncan, and J. L. Henwell (for the employers), and ('. T. Cooper. A. IL Martin. 11. V. Cullimorc. and Arthur Rosser (for the Biograph Operators' Union) as assessors. Hours of work have been fixed at seven per day and 42 per week, except that in night shows the hours may be fixed by mutual agreement according to the exigencies nf the business. The wages minimum lias been fixed upon as C.4 .")/ weekly for operators at continuous picture theatres, and £4 for operators at night theatres. This rate applies to theatres within, a radius of one mile frnm the Town Hall, the rate for suburban and country theatres being fixed at £.'! per week as -a minimum. Satisfactory arrangements have been made for casual workers, touring operators, and Sunday performances. Fourteen days' annual leave has been provided for. nnt, however, on pay. The preference clause that has been agreed upon insists upon membership nf the union within three days of notice to join by the secretary of the union. It does not apply to operators who come as members uf a travelling firm.
