(By Cable—Press Association—ConyrismV NEW YORK. -Tune -2o\ Nearly one-half of the city of Salem (Massachusetts), with its rich and historic buildings, has been devastated by a fire, which caused the loss of £4,000,000. The tire destroyed 1.000. buildings, including a score of manufacturing establishments. It also made about. 10,000 of the 45.000 inhabitants of the. city homeless. The. file originated in a leather factory, and swept through Dv. shoe-leather district, ruining every building in a curving path two miles long ami half a mile wide.
