PUBLIC SCHOOLS' SPOKFS, BOARDS ACTION DEPLORED.

A well-attcmled general meeting of Auckland Public Schools' Amateur AthVtr.™ Association was held in the Educational Institute rooms. A resolution was pawed, deploring the action of the Education Board Id refusing to grant the special jqj tho holding of the school sports. Tie association feels that a false impression mar harp been created in tbe minds or Uia public, and in consequence wishes the following facts to bti published:—On all previous occasion* connected with the public school aporw tbe Board has granted the holiday- Consequently, the association had no premonition Jint the tame procedure would not be followed on this occasion. When the notice of refusal came to band it gay« tie association the Impression that the Board wa.s unfavourable to the scheme. Even in the event of the committees of all tbe thirtythree eehoote concerned being favourable, the time at the disposal of the association was then too abort to permit of tUe ucceesary arrangements completed by April 9. The Board has been willing to grant partial holidays in the past, as In the case of tlie Orakau memorial in tbe Waipa schools, and the Truby King lecture la Auckland; and tlie association cannot see tnat there would be any unfairness ia the town schools getting a holiday over the heads of the country schools In this case. It would not have been a holiday for U»« teachers of the schoois concerned In the slightest sense of thi> term, when It is realteed that at last year's meeting tbere were 1000 competitors to deal with.
