LATE TELEGRAMS.
AN UNREGISTERED BARMAID.
WELLINGTON, this day. An hotelkeeper was charged with having employed an unregistered barmaid. The Inspector of Police said the hotel was well c nducted, but the p lice disc vered there a young woman who admitted that she had served in the hotel bar and laid told defendant she was registered. The police thought' defendant sh uld have demanded t see the girl's certificate. The prosecution was brought with the bject of making licensees more careful. Mr Myers (for the defendant) said his client had made .reasonable inquiries. The list of registered barmaids contained the ' name- "Edith" Burt n. whereas the girl's 'name was • "Mary." While uph lding the police view that licensees should require the production of certificates, the Magistrate was satisfied defendant acted b ne fide and diemissed the ease. VERDICT- OF "SUICIDE," WELLINGTON, this day. At th§ "resumed -inquest ,oh Philip Angel, jifr Maclaurin (Government analyst) gave evidence as to finding a large quantity f arsenic and. other in; gradients cqmp sing ft. poisonous mixture in the stomach. A verdict was returnee) f "Death from arsenic, -self admin: idtered."
