The Willoehra left a . qnantity -of cargo on the wharf, and others steamers were delayed or sailed ■without portions of their cargoes. It is understood that the men's direct action is the result of the failure of the Melbourne conferene to effect a settlement. The men are demanding two shillings an jionr for ordinary time and three shilJings an hour overtime instead of 1/6 "■ - end 2/3 respectively. *') Mr Hughes does not believe- that the men's action in declining to work overtime represents the deliberate intention ' : ■ of the Syk'sy branch of the Federation.
