OMNIBUS CAPSIZES.

TOPPUSS OVER XHBASKHEHT. SEVERAL PERSONS INJURED. A somewhat sensational 'bus accident —happily attended without loss of life, but nevertheless having serious results — occurred on Saturday evening at Northcote, when, through one of the bind wheels telescoping, a vehicle that was conveying a number of passengers from the 5.13 p.m. steamer from Auckland, capsized over an embankment. iA number of the occupants sustained injuries of a more or less painful nature. The brake, which was owned by Mr. A. W. Millar, This proprietor, Northcote was being driven by George Niel (an experienced driver) down the Lake Road, in the direction of Lake Takapiina, when, on approach'ng a 'bend in the Toad, near a lagoon, the horses, which were a bit fresh, got out of control, and started nipping each other. Running p" -•g the right side of the road, the off hind wheel of the vehicle got into a rut, causing the wagonette to come forward on to the shaft. In swerving round, the vehicle and horses backed over the embankment, a drop of three feet", precipitating the passengers into a creek, where they lay in a confused heap. Help was soon forthcoming, and Drs. Miekle, of Birkenhead, and Keith of Northcote, were sent for. The names of thoee persons injured are:—James Hall, of Home Street, Grey Lynn, 26 years of age, and a railway porter by occupation, a broken leg; a Maori woman, name unknown, a broken arm; Mrs. Mil ford, who wae staying with friends in Reservoir Road, Northcote, three ribs broken; Mrs. Joshua Jackson, formerly of Northcote, but now a boardinghouse keeper at Pukekohe, a bruised ehouMer and outs on the face; Mrs. Hulbert, a bruised shoulder; an infant named Gill, cute on the face and forehead. 'The spot wneie the accide-it tookplace is regarded by the residents i 3 being somewhat dangerous for vehicular trjf&c owing to the narrow width jf tia road, and the -unprotected side of the embankment. It is understood that a visit was paid by several members of the Northcote Council yesterday -morning and steps will oe immediately taken 07. that body to provide some adequate means of protection against a similar accident in future.
