At a meting of the Hauraki Miners' Prospecting Association a letter was received from the Mmjster for Mines to the effect that after obtaining further expert advice he would be ■willing to consider ajry definite proposals re prospecting in the Waihi-WTiangamata districts, but with regard to the Waita-■wheta-Te Aroha district, he regretted he could! not see his way to authorise a subsidy. Acting or this letter the local delegates have a party ready to prospect the former district, and have decided to advertise for a Tlra-mes-Tair-ua party. The leader of the Alahakarau district (Ooromandtel) reported that most of the work done has been confined to prospecting the surface. Several reefc and veins had been discovered, but were not payable, as the gold was vary patchy. They had a trial crushing of -a quarter ton from a mullocky reef: which returned loz 12dwts retorted gold, this being equal to about £.19 a ton. They had discovered loose gold in several places. Thomas, protection for Cambria claim, recommended for 3 months: Kuranul-Cale-donia. protection for Knranui claim and 3 ripfbts, granted for 4 months, subject to tributes; May Queen Company, surrender of May Qneen and St. Hippo claims, accepted from January 3; Watchman Company, protection for Thames Rig Reefs and extension of time to construct works, recommended for 5 months. A license .for, the May Queen No. 2 Extended quartz claim was granted for 42 years to W. J. McCormick, and a license for I>onely Reef claim, was recommended to the Minister. The MoDowai G.M. Company was fined £2 and costs (30/) for failing to keep a wages and time book.
