OTAGO SHIPWRIGHTS OUT.
CONFERENCE AT POUT CHALMERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDtN', Thursday. As a result of six shipwrights havine erased work rather than do casual labourers" work, a meeting of the Otapn Shipwrights' Union was held. The result was a decision to rail out all members No shipwrights, therefore, etart-d work this morning. About 40 shipwrights in Port Chalmers and Dunedin are affected and one of the immediate effects of the oeasing of work is that the launching of the Harbour Board's new tug will be delayed. Work was proceeding steadily to-day at the steamer Mokoia in dock. " Tlip Mayor of Port Chalmers (Mr D. M. Mawson) is arranging to have a conferenre between delegates from the Waterside I'nion and the representatives of the business people of the town tomorrow afternoon, to discuss the position in respect to the strike. It is understood that at the instance of the police the chairman of the Harbour Board will ask watersiders to vacate on Saturday the premises they occupy at the Rattray Street Wharf. Mr W. Belcher, secretary of the Seamen's Union, returned to-night, and received a very hearty welcome from about 1.000 people, including a large number of seamen. He was cheered time and again as he wns leaving the station.
