LIFTING THE EMBARGO.D
SYDNEY AND THE SMALLPOX. (Received 11.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Replying to a question in the House ns to whether tlie Government intended to remove the smallpox embargo from Sydney, and if so, what action would be taken to protect other States, Mr Groom (Minister for Home Affairs) said the report of the Inter-State Conference was now being considered by the various State Governments, but nothing definite had vet liecn done.
The New South Wales Government has decided to accept tbe conditions for lifting the embargo as suggested by the Inter-State Conference, and the necessary steps will lie taken to-morrow to estab-' lisli the precautions proposed. There was one ease of smallpox in Sydney yesterday and also a case at Maelean, a woman residing near tho mill whence the previous case came.
