THE GREEN LANE GELIGNITE.
AGED PRISONER REMANDED. BAIL REFUSED. The old man, Joseph Davis, (aged 7J years) who was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with the rc-porta finding of gelignite at the Green Laic j railway station, was charged at ti! ! Police Court this moring "that abort j Wednesday last he placed two plugs o! ! gelignite, with detonators and fuse *ttached at the Green Lane station.
Chief Detective McMahon asked fort week's remand, a_d Mr R. A. Singer, wit appeared (under instructions from 111 Glaister) for a._used, did not oppw the application, but asked that bail « allowed. He stated that accused w« a very old man, without money, and in » poor state of health. His daughters, wlc were perfectly respectable people, woul» take personal care of him. A doctflf ' had stated that the old man might drop down at any time, and it would « I dangerous to keep him in custody. _ Ba I would be under the personal supervision jof hi 3 family, who could report of him jto the police daily. I The Chief Detective said that for tae ! man's own sake, and in the interests lof society he must oppose bail, as tlie ; offence alleged was a most serious one, , for which the person committing it |ff i liable to imprisonment for life.
