He received a blow in. the face and sustained a. nasty cut on the daeek. An. eye-witneee elated that the young man. who was slightly built, was being fol- * lowed by strike pickets, and one of the latter, a sturdy, thick-eet man. suddenly knocked him down with hie fist. The young fellow picked himself op and went for a policeman, but. his assailant took to hi heels ami disappeared down » right-of-way. Two stewards from the Pa/teena who wandered up the streets of Lyttelton this morning-, were set upon by a mob near the pcet office. One managed to get away unhurt, bnt the other received one or two more or Ices sp.rions brakes on the face. The opportune arrival of the police saved him from further punishj mem.
