TAKAPUNA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

I An ordinary meeting of the Taiapuna I Borough Council was held last evening, I when there were present:— Mayor (Mr. •K. W. AlisonV Messrs. E. E. Grlmwade. IA. Raynes, J. Collins. H. L. Brett, F. E. Pullerton. j Old Lake Road.—The clerk to the Devonport Borongh Council wrote notifying that the latter had approved of the Joint report !of .the Devonport arid Takapvma- Councils' ; Works Committees regarding the proposed I formation or Old Lake -Road aid the f=har- ! in? of the cost. Foster and Miller, surveyors, wrote requesting the Council to allow the construction of Opun Street, openins off O'Neill's Point Road, to stand, as it had been approved by the county engineer, and it wae Impracticable to carry the road through the property of other owners to join Bgremont Street. The Streets and Works Committee recommended that the owner be asked to comply with the amendments to the specifications suggested by .Mr. Jackson (county engineer), and that the road be carried through to Egremnnt Street. Thr Mayor remarked that the second of these recommendations | ;e*med to involve a hardship, as the owner ; of the land fronting Egremont Street would bo left with at least one section, under ■the minimum frontage. Members considered that blind roads ought not to be taken over, but after some discussion the matter was deferred for a fortnig-ht to enable the owner of the property to negotiate for the purchase of the extra land. Two New Roads.—Messrs. Parr and BlomQeld wrote asking the Council to give a ■ certificate of satisfaction with the formation of RawhlU and Rarere Roads, which J had been formed in accordance with the i Waitemata County specifications, and ha.l j received the County Council's certificate of j satisfaction. It was stated in the course | of discussion that the two roads had not In fact been formed to Che specificatlone ' mentioned, and in view of this it was ' resolved to recommend the chief surveyor. Public Works Department, to refuse to accept tie deed of delegations until such time ac the specifications had been compiled with. It was decided to forward a copy of the letter to Messrs. Parr and ! Blomfleld.

Name of a Street.—Mr. G. Creamer forwarded a letter reqneKlns that the Council should name a street on the Eversleigh Estate "Creamer's itemic." He pointed out that he had been a pioneer resident on the estate, which wxs subdivided about three years ago, and <ras now the only resident on the road in question, which bore no name at present. The letter appeared to afford the Council Feme amusement, but after come discussion it was decided to grant the request.

Tramway Lawsuit.—Tke borough solicitor (Mr. M. G. McGregor) forwarded a letter from Messrs, Bamford and Brown, solicitors to th» Takapnna Tramways and Ferry Company, suggesting that the Supreme Court case pending between their clients and the Waitnmata. County Council might be obvlnted_ by a joint conference (without prejudiced between representatives of the parties, the Ta&apnna Borough Conncil aqd she solicitors concerned. It was decided to agree to a conference for Monday night next, the whole Council to attend. By-laws.— Grlmwade. Wainock, and Blomfield and Dr. Fullerton -were appointed a sub-committee to revise the Council's by-laws. Borough Engineer.—A protracted discussion took place on a recommendation hj the Works Committee that the Counci should appoint a consulting engineer. The Mayor expressed himself in favour of tils coarse, and an amendment proposed by Mr. Grimw-ade that a permanent engineer be appointed was lost on his casting vote. Tho original recommendation was then adopted.
