NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Newmarket Borough CoDECiI was held last evening, when there were present the Major CHr David Teed>, anil -Councillors Jaffrey, McColl, Seccambe, Leek, Fist, and DonalrZson. Main Trunk Express —A number of letters were received fiojn the governing bodies of surrounding, districts promising support in the Council's enfiaavour to have Newmarket made a stopping-place for the Main Trjtmk express. The proposed non-stoppage of the ■Rotorua express a: the station was also discussed. It. was decided that a sirong deputation wait anon the Minister for Railways when he nest visits Auckland. It was also decided to -write to the Farmers* Union and the ChanSber of Commerce in connection with the matter. Rubbish Tip.—A letter was received from the Auckland Harbour Board giving the Council permission to use the reclamation works at Freeman's Bay for the purposes of a rubbish tip. Foreman's Report.— Foreman of Works renorteJ that damage was being done to the lithofalt paving in Broadway by loose tones which v.-ere scattered from the tram- i way track, where the road was badly constructed. The Tramway Company tad been i communicated with, bat had stated that ■ they could not get men to do the ■ work. It was decided that the Council should undertake to find the men if tie Tramway Company would at once proceed with the work of levins a temporary coating nt tar ion the defective part of the road. Borough Vainer.— W. Stonpe was resppolnted as botonsn vainer for the ensuing year.
