'Mr. George Laurenson, AI.P/., died in Wellington this morning. Mr. G. Rust, of the New Plymouth Lands and Deeds Office, has been transferred to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Day-is, who have been on a trip to Europe* returned to Auckland yesterday by the mail steamer. Mr. H. J. Court, son of Mr. John Court, who has been absent for eleven months on a trip to England, returned to Auckland by the Vancouver boat .yesterday. The Rev. J. A. Kemp thorne, curate in charge of Holy Trinity Church. Te Henui. has been appointed \Vicar of Inglewood, Taranaki. Guests at the Star Hotel include Mr Athol Mills, of VVc-lfington. and Mr A. N. Warren, of Sydney. Dr -and Mrs Adorns, of Foxtoii. who have just left on a. trip to the Old Country, were enterferined by the residents and presented witti a token of esteem. It is stated that "Miss Eileen Ward, daughter of Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, will be married -during the first week of next month. Turner, member of the Fijian Legislative Council, arrived by the Makura from Suva yesterday. He will be a visitor to the Auckland Exhibition. Captain C. Macdonald. who has been superintending the building of some of the Union Company's new boats at Home, wits a passenger by the 'Makura yesterday, and went on South by the exprct-s in the evening. Miss D. Robertson, at present senior mistress, of the Dannevirke High School, and foi-merly assistant mistress at the Auckland Girls' Grammar School, hae been a.|*--ointed to the staff of the Christchurch Tecihnical College. Mr. Charles Holdsworth, general manager off the Union ,S.S. Company of New Zealand, who was a passenger by the Male-Era yesterdas-. goes on to Wellington tx> confer with Sir James Mills, the Company's managing director. Amongst the passengers, who arrived by the Makura from Vancouver is Mr. AY. R. Bayly, headmaster of Geelong College, who is returning to Australia, after a nine-months' tour of the world. During his travels Mr. Bayly has given great attention to educational matters and buildings. Mr. Harry J. Gilbert, who died at New Plymouth this week, was a prominent member of the Druids' order. He was first elected to the executive of the Grand Lodge, U.A.O-D., in February, 1003. and attained the highest position that his brethren could bestow upon him —namely, that of Grand President—in February, 1907. | Dr. Robert Stout and Dr. T. Duncan Stout, sons of Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justice) reached Auckland by the MakuTa yesterday from Vancouver. During a residence of nine years in the Old Country they both qualified with distinction. They practised in England, and spent several months in America, wiverc they worked with the celebrated surgeon, Dr. W. Mayo. It is their intention to remain in New Zealand. TJhey were met on arrival by Sir Robert and Lady Stout.
