ALLEGED SHORTAGE OF STAPT m AUCKLAND CHTXV A meeting of the Andd-nd breach of the New Zealand Polios ABaoaaiim held yesterday evening was attended by just on forty members. This was agreed generslly to be due to the fact that the city aiid H-barba are at the moment considerably imitMtaffetL It was pointed out that a number of men had been taken off beat duty to attend: to traffic control, a special work which had not hitherto been attended to by the police. No extra. men bad-been __at to Auckland to fill the places of those pot on to" traffic control, with the result, that extra work was thrown on the latter, and their usual allowance of time off was cut down, without any extra- remtmeration. Members generally expressed- the opinion that the Auckland officers were doing their best with- the. men at their disposal, but feeling was very strong that they were badly treated" by headqua-taa. in not being allowed a larger staff with which to cope with the extra wortthrown on tliem by the traffic regulation. a resolution was passed deploring the shortage of men in Auckland City and suburbs, and expressing the opimen that more constables should be gent to Auckland, in order that the men generally might get- their due allowance of time'off. It was decided to forward the 'resolution to Wellington. . .'. . The meeting also discussed it tomt length the matter of wages and of other concessions recently asked for, but decided to defer definite action until these i matters had been discussed in Parliament. ■" ;
