SMALLPOX IN AUSTRALIA.
MTLDER TYFE OF I/XTttFH. SYDNEY, September 19. There were four cases of smalipox to-day. The Department is now using milder lymph, which gives immunity for -• a lesser" period, but is followed by no " harmful effects. A well-known rider at unregistered : race meetings was infected, and rode at i! Victoria Park on Wednesday. He visited -! a city tailor's shop yesterday and paid - j for a" suit, saying: "Keep it till I come 1 back. I am going into quarantine on an 7 ! unpleasant trip." He has not yet re- | ported himself, and his whereabouts arc 3 1 unknown.
