PREHISTORIC DENTISTS.
In the province of Esmeraldas, in northwestern Ecuador, Trofessor Marshall Saville. who occupies the chair of American Archaeology at Columbia University, has excavated a number of skulls belonging to a pre-Incau tribe .of South American Indians which prove that high-class dentistry flourished in pre-historic times.
Professor Saville states that many skulls coiitaiu teeth crowned with gold caps aud with gold fillings equal to the best work of modern dentists. Many of the teeth, especially the front ones, are ornamented with gold filigree work in the form of stars and balf-moons.
