ANIMAL PUZZLE.
SOLICITOR ARGUES THAT A DONKEY IS A SPECIES OF MULE. An amusing point was argued at West London recently on the summons taken out by the London County Council against George Hoggan, a street-organ proprietor, of Bliimley Road, Netting Dale, for keeping a carriage without a license. The "carriage" was a small governess tar, and Hoggan said he used it for going from place to place on business, collecting money owing from customers for the hire of street organs.
Mr. Hiram Ellis, for Hoggan. said the case must fail as tbc "carriage" was drawn by a donkey, and a license was only required where a carriage was drawn by a horse or rsssile. Tbe Council's solicitor argued that a donkey was a specie l : ut mule. -I am afraiil I can't rule that a donkey is a smile," said Sir. Garrett, smiling. "The sunsnions must be dismissed."
••With costs, sir?" "No: I think jour donkey took them by _____(-_."
