LAWN TENNIS.
A. F. Wilding, in an article in the "Pall Mall Magazine" gives a few hints to players. They are simple, sound, and, coming from a player of such note, who practices what he preaches, may be accepted without question as correct. Here-are some of his recommendations: (1) Hit the ball as near as possible at the top of the bounce, and, as far as convenient, the racket should be kept horizontal; (2) keep away from the ball. The player's position as he commences the stroke should be a full arm's length to the side of the ball. Correct position is rendered quite impossible by ninety players out of every hundred for this one simple little reason —they stand too near the ball; (3) always endeavour to hit the ball when it is exactly opposite to you at the side—r-i.e., avoid reaching out and hitting the ball in front; (4) be too early rather than too late in getting position, and too late, rather than too early in hitting; (5) swing well back and follow through; (6) keep your eye on, the ball.
