a A WOMEN'S DEPUTATION". PREMIER PROMISES LEGISLATION. (By Telegraph,—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A deputation representative of women's societies in different parts of the Domin-. ion waited on the Prime Minister to-day and brought under his notice a series of resolutions adopted throughout the country having for their object the remedying of certain social evils, the protection of women and children, raising the age of consent to 21 years, and amendment ot tbe law in other' directions. It was suggested that the minimum age of marriage for females be fixed at Ifl and for males 18 years; that farm colonies be provided for women w-ho have two or more illegitimate children; and that soma women visitors to gaols be appointed by justices of the peace. Mr. Massey said he sympathised with the resolutions generally, and promise's to submit them to Cabinet with his recommendation that effect be given them if possible this session.
