"NEST OF UNCLEAN BIRDS."' Four Tounj: men named Fergus Brennan, Harry Roland Profit. James Jackson, and Ernest C. Harlich. were brought before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M.. yesterday ,at the Magistrate's Court. Onehunga. , The -first three were charged with breaking their prohibition orders, and Harlich was charged with supplying liquor to J. Jflckson. a prohibited person. Sergeant Rogers told the magistrate j that the conditions ac he found them in \ Arthur Street could only be described as! a nest of unclean birds. There were about half-a-dozen prohibited young I fellows, including Mrennan. Frost, and Jackson, in Onehun«a. These fore- I gathered in Arthur Street east, near the ; Hibernian Hotel, especially on a Satur- j ' day night, and, hiding in gateways, were supplied with liquor by Harlich and j ; others. For some time past the police had been regularly employed every Saturday night in dispersing the group. They generally arrested some of them. As soon as ten o'clock came the night was made hideous with their obscene language, to say nothing of their filthy habits. He (Sergeant Rogers) had re-1 j ceived complaints from resident* in Arthur Street that it was fast becoming: unfit for decent men to travel in. and unsafe for ladies unprotected by male ' escorts. Sergeant Rogers said he was I determined to remove the foul nest from that vicinity. One of the gang was now doing -a month in Mount Eden Gaol. : Jackson and Frost pleaded "(ruilty"; Bre.nnan and Harlick pleaded "Nob ' guilty." i All four men were convicted.
