HUNTING.

TAKURANGA HUNT CLUB. Last Saturday the meml>»s of the Paknranga Hunt Club were entertained at a hunt breakfast by the farmers of East Tamaki, oyer whose farms the honnds have permission to hunt. AixratTOO members were present: a good muster, considering the state of the weather. After the breakfast the hounds were east off on Mr Wynyard's propcrtv. where two hares were put up, and killed almost immediately, neither giving a run. Ne-t the-back of the mountain was drawn, and after some time a strong hare was put up. Making the pace warm, she took the pack round to the front of the mountain again, over a couple of nice stone walls, through a field of oats, and into a swamp that divides Mr Harris" and Mr Wvuvnrds farms, where she was lost. After a" short rest the hounds drew the oats, and a hare was put up, which went straight through tne swamp and across to Mr Walker's property. Here she turned at right angles, aud went across some very rough country and tricky fences and stone walls en route, rue approach to these walls were very bad In most instances, and consequently the jumping was not of the best, and when two fields of stone and furze were crossed the scent was lost However, it was only a short interval, and puss was again found. She w-ent back_over the same gi»__nd to the opposite end of the swamp. The next move was to Mr Wynyard's again, but hill and adjoining paddocks were drawn without results, so crossing a stiff stone wall, which stopped quite a number of followers, though most of them were on very fair mounts, the hounds drew the oats for tbe last time. Thiey commenced nt the far end away from the--swamp, and working down Held a hare was put up, which immediately made for the swamp. In tms direction the foUowers were cheeked, anci they had to go a long way- round, over a couple of stone walls In Mr Walker's property. These walls account)—l for a fair percentage -oJ-t.be field, and it could be-safely sail that those who got over hoth these walls had good luck. The run -wns disappointing, for tne hare was lost li-the swamp- and en returning to the road the hounds, were taken —>mc. ,T_ he &U was an jfleal bunting day, nt__ airtiofigh the ground-was--a bit slipnery, Out wfl a "y "Pills resulted, it being.- the." day ■for the best hunters. .Amon-st those following were: "/"he DenutT Master rah- H.
