AUCKLAND'S POMGB FORCE.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The strength of the police force in the Auckland district on March 31st last was: 1 superintendent, 1 inspector, 1 Bub-inspector, 3 senior-sergeants, 16 sergeants, 133 constables, 1 chief detective, 2 detective-eergeants. 7 detectives, 2 acting detectives, 6 district constables, 4 native constables, 1 matron, and 1 surgeon, states Superintendent Mitchell, in his report. During the year a seniorsergeant and 22 constables were transferred to the 'Hamilton district.

Mr. Mitchell, in reporting that Pukekohe and Otahuhu stations had been increased by 1 constable each, and Onehunga by 3 constables, adds: "I beg to recommend that at least 6 additional constables be added to the strength of the central station, and 1 constable to the Newmarket station, so that adequate protection may be afforded property in a rapidly-increasing population. No stations were opened or closed dnriny the year. One constable was discharged as medically unfit, and 6 constables resigned voluntarily. The conduct of the members of the force, with few exceptions, has been good."

During the year ended December 31st, 1912. there were 6.833 offences reported, as against 6.662 the previous year. The increase i.s largely Jue to 183 cases under the Gaming Act, resulting from raids made: 05 per cent of the offences reported during the year were detected.
