NEW MANGERE BRIDGE.

■ • RECOMMENDATION OF LOCAZ. BODIES. PROVISION' FOR SWING SPAN. The question of making provision for a lifting or swing span in the proposed new 'Mangere Bridge was advanced another step at the Onehunga Borough Council meeting last night. Messrs. Russell and Campbell, borough solicitors, wrote that they had represented the Council at a meeting- of the local bodies interested in the building of the new Mangere Bridge. Mr. Moore, engineer, also attended the same meeting and he stated that t'>,> of making a provision for a lifting or swing span would be between £2011 and £300. After hearing this statement the meeting unanimously adopted the following resolution: 'That it -be a .recommendation of this meting of representatives of contributing bodies to the Mangere Bridge, to the MmgeTc Road Board, that as the nn-t of making the provision for a lifting or swing span in such bridge is estimated at between £"200 or £300 only, the Mangere Road Board should, in repiy vi ;.he Auckland Harbour Board's letter on this subject, suggest to that Board that such cost .be borne hy that body, thus providing an equitable settlement, of the question, and that the chairman, engineer, and solicitor of the Mangere Board be requested to wait on the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board to place these views before him." The same meeting -also decided that the actual calling of tenders be left to the Mangers Road Board and that they be returnable within one month adTo the chairman of the Mangere Itoad Board, care of the Auckland City Council, the tenders to be opened in the Presence of the contributing "bodies. With regnrd to a letter received at the last meeting of the Council from Mr. A. MeColl. president of the Onehunga Chamber of Commerce, on this question •md referred to the Coum-il in committee for consideration, the committee recommended "That it be deferred until it is •seen what action is taken by the Manu'au County Council and the Auckland Harbour Board, and that the chairman of the Murrgere Road Board be asked if anything definite has .been done." The recommendation was adopted.
