The Otahnhn Bowling Club held their annual social gathering in the public hail on Friday evening. There were aboot two hundred present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Progressive- euchre was played from S till 10 pjn. The president of the club, Mr. S. E. Harper, presented trophies won by members of the club daring tbe season. These were numerous and costly, the principal winners being Mr. H. Everitt, Mr. Harbutt, Mr. McMuller. Mr. Heyward. and several others. During tbe evening tbe bachelors of the club presented Mr. B. Bnilen. one of the members who has recently been married, witU a wedding present as a token of their esteem. Supper and a very enjoyable dance brought the evening to a close. The hall and supper tables were decorated with the club colours, green and gold, and the thanks of the clnb are dne to the many ladles who worked hard to make tbe gathering an undoubted success. A large number of Liberal supporters assembled, at the Taihape station on Monday morning to welcome Sir Joseph Ward on his way through to Wellington. On behalf of those present Mr. W. At tbe monthly meeting of the Hnntly Road Board, Mr G. Rutherford, a settler on the Mangawhara estate, presented-a petition from settlers In the district praying that a deviation of tbe Matabnra road be made, in order to allow settlers a better means of access to their properties. Mr Rutherford offered to gtve the land required for the purpose, In exchange for the portion of tbe-old road to be closed, on various conditions. The idea of settlers was to raise a loan for tbe purpose of forming a road from the Mangawiara Creek to the Ohtno-wai-Te Hoe Road. Tbe Board replied that before tbe deviation, could be- gone into It would be necessary to approach the University College Council, and ascertain their views with regard to tbe closing of the portion of road referred to. The Board intimated their willingness to obtain the necessary information, and to notify the petitioners when a decision was arrived at.
