I'ON.SON'BY DEBATING SOCIETY. The weekly meeting of tae Ponsonby Literary and De-bating Society was held ii Lbe Leys Institute last night, Mr W. McMath (president) occupying the chair. The evening was taken up by a debate, the subject being "That the rise of Kastern Nations Is a Menace to Australasia." The affirmative was taken by Mr D. Docwra, and the negative by Mr A. A. Veale. Both speakers •handled their subjects in good style, and pni forward strong arzumr-nzs la favour of their respective fides. The subject war. then thrown open for discussion, and an tnt.nrpstatg discourse followed, in which several members participated. At the conolnsion of the replies given by the speakers on the affirnrcitire and negative, the question was pnt to the meeting and a vote was recorded favouring tie sitfe of the Question I fcaatned. by Mr Veaie.
