HOSPITAL BOARDS' POSITION.
At a special meeting l2fit week the Hospital Board decided to reply to a departmental telegram concerning the restriction of the movements of Maoris, elating that it could not undertake' responsibility in the matter. The .following reply has now come to hand from the 'Chief Health Officer (Dr. Yalin±ine:—"My telegram of July 23 was issued to all hospital boards where cases of smallpox have been reported, to remind them of their responsibilities, as local authorities under the Public Health Act, with regard to the control of infectious diseases. This reminder was especially necessary in the case of country hospital boards, who evidently were not aware of their powers and reeponeibilitiee under the Act. So far as your board ia concerned there is no special need at present io do more than co-operate with the officers of the Department, as you have been doing in the past.
