CITY AND SUBURBS CLEAR.
ITO CASES FOR THREE SATS. HEALTH OFFICERS MORE OPTIMISTIC. Three days have passed since the laet case of the existing epidemic was reported to the Public Health Office from Auckland or the suburbs, and those concerned with the suppression of the disease speak with increased confidence of early success. Nearly all the natives in the Auckland province have now beeu vaccinated, and as the trouble has been confined to them and Europeans who have come directly into contact with them, the opinion ie held that it will soon be stamped out.
Seven convalescents were discharged from the isolation hospital to-day after undergoing thorough disinfection.and u» patients—ll of them Europeans—now remain. Those released from isolation were 5 male Maoris, 1 male European, and 1 female Maori.
A quantity of lymph, sufficient for the vaccination of approximately 11,000 persons, arrived by train from Wellington this morning, but as the popularity of the operation has waned considerably, there has not - 'been the same keen demand for lymph in the city. The Departments 'staff in Auckland has been very busy, however, in dispatching consignments of vaccine to various parts of the province.
Reporting to the Health Office from the North this morning, Dr. Cawkwell stated that six further cases had occurred at Raukautao, while seven convalescents in the temporary hospital at Kaikohe were doinjj well. Dr. Gunn reported from Parawera last night that three new cases had come under her attention. Two cases now in the isolation camp near Te Awamutu were contacts with a man who died of the hemorrhagic form of the disease.
Dr. Ross, of Wellington, who has been acting for the Department at Kawhia, w proceeding North to Kaihu to relieve Dr. Eleanor Baker, who comes to Auck. land to take up her appointment as a junior resident medical officer at the Auckland Hospital. Inspector Grieve, of Auckland, has gone to Kaihu to arrange for a temporary concentration camp in that district.
