TARAWA OIL FIELDS.
NEW REFINERY OPENED.

XEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. The official opening of the refinery in connection with the Taranaki Oilfieldtook place to-day. There was a large attendance of the public, but disappointment expressed that no Minister of the Crown was pre=ent. The refinery is replete with the very latest appliances for ts work, and thoroughly up to date in all respects. It cost £36.000 to build, and Li regarded as evidence of tbe utmost faith on the part of the experts in the future of oil in Taranaki. Congratulatory speecheo -were delivered by Mr. C. Carter (chairman of the company), Mr. J. D. Miller (advisory expert), Mr. H. J. Okey (member for the town). Mr. G. Browne (Mayor), and others. The refinery will at oiicc proceed to deal with the large quantity of oil already stored in the Moturoa reservoir?. Quite a number of new bores are being driven, and the building of the refinery has given a marked impetus to oil prospecting throughout the district.
