SCOUT OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL DINNER. The annual dinner of the Auckland Scout Officers' Association was held at the Tiffin Tea Rooms on Saturday evening.' The Provincial Commissioner (T>r Bedford) presided, and some 40 active and retired officers were present, with their friends. After an expedient dinner the toast of The King" was proposed by T)r Bedford, who Teferred, in the course of his remarks, to the importance of loyalty as part of Scoot training. Mr A. G. Stebbing proposed tbe toast of "Our Guests," anil said that he washed to take ■the opportunity of thanking those citizens present who had rendered Scoutmasters practical help and sympathy. He pointed out that Oie training which Scouts were receiving was bound to exert a decided liniTueiice for good Bn pvery spJrere of activity, commercial and otherwise, into which the boys were being drafted. The toast of "The Scouts" was proposed by Mr 11. Stebbing (late Provincial Commissioner), who, in the coarse of his remarks, stated that the chief difficulty encountered in the movement was the depletion of the Scouts' ranks by the introduction of compulsory military training. There was. however, uo ill-feeling whatever between the Scout and the -military authorities. Colonel Barclay responded to the toast, and said that he would continue to give tbe movement his entire sympathy and support. "The Health of the Chief S <ont" (Sir R. Baden-Powell) was proposed by the Iter. E. Gillnm, and the toast of the "Past Officers-" was spoken to by Mr A. W. Porter, ln conclusion, the Commissioner officers to do their duty by the Scout law, steadfastly and unflinchingly. Daring the evening songs were rendered by Messrs H. Stchhing and R. G. Applegarth, and Mr 11. Jones contributed a flute solo. Mr Wiison was accompanist.
