VANCOUVER MAIL.
NIAGARA IN T PORT. The l'nion Compauy's Canadian and Australasian mail service steamer Niagara arrived at Auckland in the early hours of this morning, and was berthed at the Queen Street wharf after medical inspection of the passengers had been carried out. Mails for New Zealand and the Commonwealth were brought by the steamer from the Continent, the United Kingdom and America. In all IDS passengers arrived by the Niagara, and of these 52 disembarked at Auckland. The remainder will be taken on to Sydney, and in addition a number of New Zealanders have taken the opportunity of making the passage to the Commonwealth from Auckland in the new steamer. The quantity of cargo brought by the steamers shows a steady increase. This time there is 525 tons for Auckland and 2180 tons for Sydney. The voyage from Vancouver was made under ideal weather conditions, and the passengers in all parts of the ship appeared to enjoy the time spent at sea. A social committee organised sports, deck games and several dances. The Archbishop of Sydney (Dr. Wright) distributed the prizes won at the sports. Cricket on deck was most popular. A match played between the officers of the Niagara and a team chosen from .the passengers resulted in an easy win for the landsmen.
The Niagara is to sail from Auckland this evening for Sydney.
