NEW TERM COMMENCED. The lirst inectinTof the newly-elected Anekland and Suburban Drainage Board was held last night. Those present were: The chairman (Mr. 0. J. Parr), Messrs, M. 3 Coyle. G. Baildon, G. Read. V. B. K. Gatidln. .1. C. Gleeaon, E. A. Craig, J. M. Mennie. W. Forrest, M. Casey, J. Dempsey, A. J. Entricfin, and J. Trevithick. CAPITAL. VALUATIONS. Tlie Valuation Office notified the ratable the twelve months commencing March 31. Giving last year's figures in parentheses, the valncs are as follow:—Auckland city. £14 427 491 (£14.201.741 V. Parneil. £063,043 (£003,603): Arch Hill. (£201.430).; Newmarket. £424.538 (£414,7831: Grey Lynn, £1,135.65S (£1.072.154 V. Eden Terrace. £258,714 (£234.80'J>: Point Chevalier. £142,404 ff134.6031: Monnt Albert. £1.132,278 ( £i!ffio,<»o): Kpsom. £1,0C1.52r> t£682,G78): One-tree Hill. 1<163.475 (£167.312): Remnera. £2,135.001 (£1.408.17X1. Total, £24.312,386. The inclusion of Parnell and Arch Hill with the city this year brings the Ancklaad valuations to a total of £15,590,524. Last year the city contributed £3.544 16/9. while the totnl contributions amounted to £5,503 6/7. This year the city's contributions will be £3,004 12/. while the total contributions will be £G,2'.'7 11!/. The Chairman expressed thn opinion that the foregoing figures were highly satisfactory and pleasing. Snburban increases had heen i-uused by developing settlement, and as for tbo city he thought its growth exceeded that of any other of the principal New Zealand centres. The city was to be congratulated on showing a capital value of 10 millions sterling. ns> compared with fight millions for the suburbs.
