THE OFFENSIVE SMELL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —With reference to the very bad smell which permeated the city and a_urbs lately,; I felt tbe effluvium - for some months past when I lived in Pony sonby Road, and I came to the conetasion tbat the smell came from th* destructor in Freeman's Bay.' In my opinion, it is not the smeH of gas, as others suggest, but the burning, of the refuse of the-city and suburbs. Jt -would be Weil for the Council authorities to mil the Freeman's Bay furnace, and also /insist upon landlords placing in" their houses the p.w.c's, as I consider the aani- : tary conditions of dwellings at present anything but healthy.—l am, etc. MEDICAL WOMAN.
