ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL

Messrs J. Howe (Mayor), W. Colledge, J. Simpson, S. R. Skinner, A. _cCoII,' j' Lomas, C. C. Davies, and'R. DiUlcar were present at the meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council which was held last eight. New Roads.—The Council, In committee recommended, and it was agreed, that iti . future any new roads laid out in estates cut up in the borough he formed, kerbed, 1 channelled, and metalled, etc., in strict' accordance with specification used by tbe Newmarket Borough Council. Finance.—The cemetery fund was re. ported to be in credit £3,779. Accounts amounting to £250 were passed for payment. Half-holiday.—A petition was received at the last council meeting asking that the weekly half-holiday he altered from Wednesday to Saturday, in the event of Saturday being chosen for the half-holiday in Auckland. The Council decided that no action can be takeu in the matter until "A nest January. Petition.—A petition received from rest- '"■/& dents in Beresford I'ark Estate asking for certain street improvements, etc., was ordered to lie on the table in the usual way for a fortuight. Councillor Colledge taking V charge of the same. A Protest. —Mr F. C. Hammerick wrote protesting agaiust the Council voting £2o towards the cost of entertaining the officers and crew of H.M.s. New Zealand while at ■ Auckland, seeing that tbe Council has au ci overdraft of £1,200. The letter was re- . ceived. Half-Holiday for Employees.—lt was ef agreed to give all the borough employe's i a half-holiday to enable them to visit the V warship in Auckland. Farewell.—The Mayor, in saying farewell -! to those councillors who* were not seeking '. re-election, thanked them and the whole council for their hearty co-operation with ■ him and with each other iv the Interests of- : the borough. Councillors Simpson and McColl replied, expressing their appreciation of the tact and courtesy of the Mayor, which they said accounted very largely for the Council having been such a happy family.
