The Minister for Native Affairs (the Hon. W. H. Henries) informed a deputation of Maorie at Dtmedin yesterday that he had been informed by the Native Department that the Government paid £2,000 a year to the tion Department for free medical attendance for Maoris. He recently decided to introduce a-new system, and notices to that effect had been sent out. The deputation could take his assurance it was not intended to do away with free medical attendance. The Hon. T. Parata suggested the setting-up of a Royal Commission to inquire into native land affairs- Mr. Herriee said, with regard to the administration of the land under the Landless Natives Act, it was clear that something would have to be done on the lines suggested .by Mr. Pararta.
