FIRE AT GREY LYNN.

FRUITERER'S SHOP GUTTED. A fire.'broke out in a shop occupied by Mr. P. Glen, fruiterer, in Richmond Avenue, Grey Lynn, at about 3 o'clock this morning. The shop, which is one of a terrace of seven, was completely gutted, but the good work done by the Grey Lynn Fire Brigade, aided by the iact that a nine-inch brick wall separates each tenement, prevented the fire from epreading. The stock of an adjoining stationery and fancy goods shop, occupied by Mrs. Butler, was considerably I damaged by smoke, while the stock of Mr. 'Welham, chemist, also suffered some slight damage. !Mr. Glenn is a very heavy loser, as there was no insxirance on the furniture and only £40 on the stock. The origin of the fire is a mystery, ■but i it is thought that it may have been caused by sparks.from a fire that had been left burning in one of the living rooms. The building, which is owned by Mt. A. S. Clothier, is covered by insurance on the whole 'block in the Royal Exchange Insurance Company amounting to £3,000.
