NEW YORK, April 17. A big hotel in Malone city, in the north of New York State, near the River St. Lawrence, destroyed the building and cost the lives of seven of its inmates. One woman escaped by jumping from a third storey window on to a pile of lumber.

Those who were burned to death were overcome by smoke in their beds.
