A LADY STRIKE SUPPORTER. FIXED FOR INSULTING LANGUAGE. (By Telegraph.—Own corrcsponaeut.) WAIHI, Tuesday. A charge against Mary McCullock, of WaHii) of behaving in an offensive manner at the local railway station on the' Sth inst., was continued this afternoon, before Mr. Burgess, S.M. David Johnston, chairman of the Waihi Schools Committee, who was a pasenger on the train, ami to whom, among others, it ■ivas alleged the defendant directed insulting remarks, said in evidence that on arrival at Waihi he entered the nearest coach, and had just got seated, when he heard defendant use the words: '" Scab,' , " Police pimp," and " Murderer." Under cross-exam-ination defendant admitted having procured a revolver and 100 cartridges recently from Auckland, thesame having been seized by the police at the railway station, but not with the intention of shooting anyone. She admitted having •threatened to shoot any person who broke into her house, a-s she had been informed of a threat to do for her. She had firearms all ready in the house to protect herself. The Magistrate, in delivering judgment, said that on the evidence before •him he must, convict. He pointed out that defendant had no right to break the law, and make it disagreeable for people on public platforms. If men taunted her, she ihad her remedy. It was a cowardly idling for any mart to nnnoy « woman. He would inflict what •lie considered a moderate penalty, as he had done in a similar case the other day. Defendant would be convicted and fined •CI with costs. £3 19/, and was. given 14 days in -which tn pay, default being fixed at sev-en days' imprisonment.
