DISGRACE TO THE UNIFORM. ROWDIES INVADE DANNEVIRKE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) -• ( DANNEVIRKE, this day. About one hundred territorials from Oringi camp visited Dannevirke last night on leave. The impression created was a'very unfavourable one. They were some of the men who had failed to attend the stipulated number of drills during the year, and were putting in four extra days' drill. Their conduct in . the streets early-in the evening was disgraceful. Shops were invaded in search for cigarettes, and uniformed youths paraded the streets as noisy as drunken royeterers. Women and girls were subjected to coarse remarks, and pandemonium was caused, the noise being heard half a mile away. Two men, eating raw smoked fish, invaded an hotel and demanded brandy and soda. They were Tefused. As the men were going back to camp, disgraceful proceedings took place; and several windows were broken. Many of the youths were under the influence of drink; A guard of the train says their conduct was worse than that of Maoris , at a tangi. | One civilian opined that the men ! should be put in barb-wire cages, and j taught manners before being allowed to 1 go soldiering if they are going to act as . they did last night. !
