REMINGTON COLLEGE PICNIC. j A trip to Nihotupu Falls was made by '% the staff and, students of the Remington y, ,- Commercial-College'on Saturday for pur- ■' poses of a picnic. The party: left town by 7: the 5.50 a.m. trfain • for ■-.:■ AVaikumete, and then proceeded by coaches to the second falls at Nihotupu. After partaking of an alfresco luncheon, the holidaymakers- ex- - plored the wonders of the native bush and also, inspected the dam-of the city waterworks. ■ ' They, returned to AVaikumete •in time to catch the 5.30 train to town. Those who made the trip were delighted with the scenery, both on the route of the drive and at the faUs. .'•■•■■■• , FIRE BRIGADE SOCIAL. The annual social oj the Grey Lynn Fire" Brigade was held on Friday' evening, and proved most successful. Messrs Archibald Clark and Sons, Ltd., kindly placed their hall in Williamson Avenne at the disposal of ' ! the brigade, and this was prettily decorated with bunting in honour of the occasion. The Mayor (Mr. G. Baildoti) presided, and all the members of the Council were present, as- well as' representatives from the city and- suburban Are \brigades. Supper was provided, and the customary toiist list was gone ■ through. Items were rendered by Messrs. J. Smitheman, E; Fort, Heathers, Caudstone, Aylett, Billings, and Master Ross. A fine solo was played on the violin by Master. Parsons, and selections were given oh Mr. Brinsdeh's gramophone. During the evening-the Mayor presented the trophies won at the recent Fire Brigades Demonstration. It was announced - that quite a number of trophies - had already I been promised for the next demonstration. - : ; •- ■ - .--•■■ ASSISTANT MASTERS' ASSOCIATION. ..___,___ The monthly meeting of the Auckland Public Schools Assistant Masters' Associa- - tlon was.held on' Saturday evening at theMasonic Hall, Mr D. Mclnness (President) being in the chair. ' A reply from the A.D.E.I. was received in answer to the - Association's protest re the Belmont appointment. The Association accepted with thanks an invitation from the Auckland ' Headmasters'- Association to be present at the forthcoming lecture to.be given by Mr Edwin Gilbert, tlie national organiser of the adult school movement. The Prestdeut" (Mr D. Mciuness) having been promoted to the headmastership of the Point Chevalier school, Mr C. AVllson (Mount Eden) was elected president for the remainder of 1913. * ollowiug supper musical items were rendered by Messrs Hare* Murdoch, F. Shepherd, H.
