S.M. COURT.

• ■ —- (Before Mr C. C. Kettle, S.M.) A BILL OF COSTS. A claim for f67 1/1. being the amount of a bill of law costs extending over a considerable period, was made by Edmund Mahony, solicitor, who was represented hy Dr. H. D. Bamford, against Joseph Franicb, an Austrian, who appeared on his own behalf. Dr. Bamford explained that the case had been referred at one stage to arbitration, but the award of the arbitrators had been set aside by Mr Cutten. S.M., and a new trial ordered. The defendant made a number of complicated objections to several items in the bill, considering that he had not been credited with certain sums due to him. The Court went carefully over all these objections, to which the plaintiff replied. Mr Mahouy stated that the accounts had been examined by three competent accountants, one representing the defendant, and no error or wrong charge had been found in them. No application "had been made for tbe taxing of the bill. His AA'orship said that the defendant evidently had a confused Idea that there was something wrong with the bill, but he had not succeeded In showing that he had any ground for his various objections, lt looked as if the trouble would have been avoided if accounts had been rendered more frequently to the defendant, who would then have understood the position of his affairs more clearly. Judgment would be for the plaintiff, with costs, but a re-hearing would be granted if the defendant could show that he had real grounds for objection.
