At the Methodist Church on Sunday membership tickets commemorating the union of tbe Methodist and Primitive Methodist Churches were distributed. Rev. Thos. Fee announced that he was retiring from the position of circuit minister owing to Illhealth, and that his farewell services would be held uext Sunday evening. The newlyappointed minister, Rev. T. G. Carr,' of Birkenhead. Auckland, is expected to take charge towards the end of April. A visitor to Waitewhotu (seven miles from Waihi) states that the district is looking well, and that there are quite a number of farms cropping up witb excellent prospects. Tliere is a strong iocal feeling that representations shonld be made to the Premier on the occasion of his visit here with a. view to having bush lands In the vicinity of Waihi thrown open for settlement. A very largo area is at the present time locked np. There is little doubt that agricultural and dairying industry will prove the salvation of Waihi. At the School of Mines meeting the director reported that 67 students had enrolled, and that the class attendance was 120. He recommended that a.s two entrance scholarship candidates had left the district, the present holder. H. A. Ellis, be granted an extension of another year, and the council agreed to the request.
