Mrs Arthur MacAithur, who has been visiting Rotorua, has returned to Auckland. Her husband is a relative of the well-known Mac Arthur family of Camden Park, _S. Mrs Mac Arthur is the daughter of an old Auckland identity, Captain Dow—oy, who was for many years secretary of the Northern Club, and during her stay here is residing at Glcnalvon. A paragraph in circulation, stating that Mr. R. McNab intends while in England seeking election to the House of Commons, in place of Dr- Chappie (member for Stirlingshire), was denied entirely by Mir. McNab when his attention was dravra to it. The rumour further states thiit Dr. Chappie is giving up politics at Home because it is too costly, and is coming to the Dominion to look after his 'business interests. Mr. McNab said this was the first he had heard of it. —(Press Association.) Many West Coasters from the South Island now residing in the Auckland district will regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Katherine Sheedy, which took place at Greyirtouth last Good Friday. The deceased lady was the wife of the late Daniel Sheedy, for almost half a century proprietor of the Brian Boru Hotel in that town. She was very well known and highly esteemed, and leaves a family of two sons and four daughters, also three brothers —Messrs. Daniel, Patrick, and James Twohill.
