GROWTH OF THE LAND FORCES (Received 9— ajn.) BRISBANE, this day. Mr Fisher continued by stating that the navy expenditure in the past three years had totalled nearly 5$ millions. He proposed to start a navy aviation school and various naval bases. The floating docks and naval shipbuilding yard at Jervis Bay would be proceeded with.
The Government would co-operate with the other Dominions and the United Kingdom in the protection of British interests in the Pacific.
He estimated that at the end of six years 100,000 senior cadets would be in training, and that there would be 128,000 militia between the ages of 18 and 20.
Provision would be made for senior cadets to carry out a proportion of their drills in working hours, and legislation would be introduced to obviate loss of wages being thereby entailed.
