SAIL AND MOTOR.

Apart from any Oiscussion that there may be about, the handicaps iv the race for the Macky tup on Saturday, yachtsmen generally will be pleased" that the trophy was not won outright. The race has always provided a lot of interest, and' m many ways it would have been a pity if any one had -secured it for all time. The Ariki had Avon the Macky Cup previously, but not while she was the property of her present owner. Next season there will be an even greater chance of the competitions being terminated. Although there was such a large amount of aquatic sport in progress in the harbour, all the events were got off without any hitch. The important class races held by the N.Z. Power Boat Association were particularly successful, the Richmond Cruising Club races were responsible for some good sailing, and those connected with the Ponsonby Yaeh-t and Launch Cruising Club had a thoroughly enjoyable outing at Awaroa Bay. A number of yacht and power boat races are to be held on Saturday next by the North Shore Yacht Club, the destination for the boats wiJI be Awaroa Bay. The first race will be started from off the Stanley Bay wharf, at 2.30, and the vessels in the remaining classes will be sent away at intervals up till three o'clock. The second cruising race of the season for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron will be held on Saturxiay next. It is anticipated that the majority of the big yachts will compete. The ocean race to Port Underwood and back between the old-timer, the modern, and the ultra-modern yachts, held by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, proved to be an excellent contest. The yachts entered were the Waitangi j (scratch), the Matangi (70 minutes), and Ailsa (120 minutes). Waitangi finished first, but on corrected times Ailsa is first and Shrtangi second.
